Hello. My name is Yerain, and I was not expecting to make this video, but I’m new to this whole YouTube thing, and there’s some gear I want to get. You can probably tell the audio is not very good right now because I’m using the onboard audio from the camera.
My second audio option is to use my phone. In the video, I have my phone rigged up to a microphone, and this is what it sounds like. I’m currently recording on my phone. Earlier, it was from the camera. This time it’s from the microphone that’s attached to my phone. But I’ve got something else for you.
This is the MAONO microphone. I haven’t opened it yet, so I wanted to show you what it looks like. I’m going to do some testing so you can hear what this sounds like, so let’s take a look.
What’s in the box?

The microphone itself is not very heavy. It’s light. But it doesn’t feel cheap. So this is the whole setup.
MAONO microphone installation
Full disclaimer I have no idea what I’m doing. I’ve never used a microphone other than my phone before, so this will be a learning experience. It can’t be that hard on me. It’s just mounting it to my desk.
Here I have the microphone itself and the USB cable. I will plug this right in and test the sound before reading the whole thing. By the way, to record this audio, I’m just using voice memos on my Mac. That’s it.
I just switched the microphone from my system preferences to USB, which should change the microphone input in voice memos. I don’t know if it does, but I was looking around the preferences for voice memos, and there isn’t anything for which kind of microphone you want to use. Okay, let’s give it a shot.
The instructions on Amazon show that you don’t speak into it from the top—it picks up from the sides or something like that, so keep that in mind.
Testing the MAONO microphone
Okay, let’s start testing. (please see the video to see testing in action).
I already love this. So plug and play. I didn’t do anything other than change the setting on my system preferences, and it worked immediately. I hope you can hear that. And I hope it’s pretty good quality. Surely you’ll be able to hear the difference between the camera, the MacBook, and this microphone.
I’m trying to get this to somehow clamp onto the table. The problem I’m having is that this table is just not built for this clamp. So, I changed plans and mounted them on a shelf. I took some of the cables and ran them through the back. I have it rigged up, so I can push it away if I don’t need it.
Are there any glitching problems with this microphone?
I ran into an issue. I was recording that last bit; I was listening to the playback. I heard a snap, crackle, and popping, and I think it was from the microphone. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and now it seems like that snap is gone. I don’t know what it was, but it’s not happening anymore.
What’s the best distance for the microphone?
The audio sounds better when you speak right into the microphone. Just be about an inch away from the microphone. I think it’s going to pick up the best quality from this distance. I could be wrong, but hearing the playback, I think it’s pretty good.

How do I connect my Maono microphone to my PC?
Connect your wired microphone to your device’s earbud jack. Use a 3.5mm-to-3.5mm or 6.5mm-to-6.5mm cable to connect your wired microphone to your smartphone, computer, or camera, and your 6.5mm-to-6.5mm cable to connect your microphone to a mixer, amplifier, or another device. A wireless microphone should be linked to its transmitter.
How good is Maono’s microphone?
Conclusions. Even though I thought the Maono PM500T sounded a bit too skewed toward the low-end frequencies, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like listening to it because of its reasonable pricing and high quality of construction. The sound is much less “sharp” than on my Marantz USB system, and I like that. Nonetheless, I’ll let you people decide.
How good is Maono’s microphone?
It’s a fantastic microphone for the price. The mic’s audio quality is high enough to be used for singing. However, you’ll need to do some post-recording editing and avoid being too near to it to avoid clipping. I use it while I sing and play video games.
